6th Grade Discovery Room Update (October)

There was a lot of excitement for Mr. Bednarz’s sixth graders this month! First, they were able to travel to the Science Center to observe ocean monitoring equipment and hear from Mr. Rob Campbell, a research scientist. Back in the classroom, students saw and discussed a slideshow and video demonstrating water properties such as density and pressure. In another session, the instructor presented demonstrations for convection, water pressure, and density. The students were especially interested in the density demo, which utilized a graduated cylinder and substances of different densities, which were colored to make a colorful column. They were surprised to see that vegetable oil is less dense than water!
