Anne is an avian ecologist with a master’s degree from the University of Montana. Her research at PWSSC focuses on abundance, distribution, and migratory patterns of seabirds and shorebirds. She has extensive experience conducting at-sea, aerial, and ground-based avian surveys. She also has experience studying migratory movements of seabirds and shorebirds using light-level geolocator technology and banding data.

Anne’s current projects include at-sea surveys to monitor marine bird density and distribution in and around the tanker-escort lane in PWS during the non-breeding season; evaluate the impact of mariculture operations on marine birds; examine upper-trophic level foraging dynamics; and understand how marine birds use persistent tidal rips in Cook Inlet. She is also involved in a long-term project surveilling the prevalence of influenza A viruses within the local shorebird and gull populations. Anne is also working with the Aleutian Tern Technical Committee to coordinate a statewide Aleutian Tern survey.
