4th Grade Discovery Room Update (November)

Release of fry at Fleming Spit

In Mrs. VanDyke’s class the students learned about the effects of glacial silt runoff that flows into Lake Eyak. As a class they looked at several different maps of the lake at different times of year. We discussed the effects of the silt on salmon spawning and what other pressures the salmon eggs are faced with. Next the kids went down to the gym to learn the language of dance and how we can move like glaciers too. The kids were paired up and choreographed their own dance routines with glaciers in mind (accumulation, retreat, advance etc.). The kids shared their routines to the group with enthusiasm!
