Alysha Cypher is a fish physiologist, ecotoxicologist, and mariculture specialist who joined the Prince William Sound Science Center in 2020. Her recent research addresses information gaps that affect the growth of the budding mariculture industry in Alaska. This work ranges from evaluating best practices for collecting source seed and growing young kelp to drying efficiency and economic viability of processing bulk seaweed. She works closely with farmers and other stakeholders in the mariculture industry to address important questions that limit this industry from growing in Prince William Sound. Originally from western Pennsylvania, she has come to love the coastal Alaskan lifestyle centered around gathering and sharing locally sourced food and creating artwork inspired by nature and foraging.
