Marine Particle Tracking and Visualization
PROJECT
Marine Particle Tracking and Visualization
Background
This project aims to create a tool that allows users to plot potential trajectories using a twenty-plus-year hindcast of circulation from the Cook Inlet Operational Forecast System (CIOFS). This will allow users to examine larval recruitment or study the potential impacts of oil spills.
Method
Axiom will be implementing the code to provide the particle trajectory interface to be used with the CIOFS model. That work will be guided by the expertise of the principal investigators and collaborators. Further input will be sought from potential users.
What We Are Learning
We are working to enable a larger group of people to easily examine issues associated with transport by ocean circulation. While the proof of concept is for Cook Inlet, the tool is to interface with other circulation models as well.
