PORT VALDEZ WEATHER BUOYS
Advanced information for marine transportation and oil spill response.
Two weather buoys were deployed in Port Valdez in 2019. The buoys were donated by Fairweather, Inc and deployed near the Alyeska Pipeline Corporation Valdez Marine Terminal (where oil is loaded into tankers) and the Valdez Container Terminal (where barges load and unload freight). The buoys provide weather (wind speed and direction, temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure) and sea state (wave height and direction, surface current velocity) information for marine transportation, oil spill response, and terminal operations.
